1981
Bernie Dyme founded Perspectives Ltd, a counseling and psychotherapy practice in two (2) locations (Chicago and Oakbrook Terrace, IL) with his original founding partner, Jeff Blaine, whom he met in the lobby of the School of Social Administration (now the Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice) at the University of Chicago.
Perspectives remains independently owned by one of its founders, Bernie Dyme.
1983
Expanded into the workplace as an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provider offering counseling/psychotherapy services for those employees and their family members who were in need, consultation around supervisory referrals, Critical Incident Response services and prevention and organizational intervention seminars.
1990
Began providing WorkLife (childcare, eldercare, legal and financial) services as a part of the array of prevention and early intervention services to help people deal with issues of daily living that, without assistance, might turn into more serious problems.
1992
Signed largest contract to provide EAP services for 10,000 employees in two locations.
Perspectives begins its expansion nationally, continually growing our affiliate/provider network.
2001
Perspectives actively serviced the needs of its customers and partnered with other EAP organizations to respond to the horrific events of 9/11.
2004
Bernie Dyme, the President, was asked to become a board member of the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless, allowing Perspectives to give back to the community in which they reside.
2006
Named as one of the Top EAP Providers by Workforce Management magazine.
2007
First time Awarded Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility.
Perspectives is 4x recipient of this prestigious award.
Listed on the Hot List of Leading EAP Providers by Workforce Management magazine.
2009
First time receiving the Best Places to Work in Illinois Award.
Perspectives has gone on to win this award three more times.
2010
Launched our Organizational Consulting arm due to requests from customer organizations who realized that employees’ quality of life and mental health needs are affected by the workplace norms and culture and vice-versa.
This enabled Perspectives to further support workforce strategy, team development and workplace culture.
2017
Helped to form the Allies of Innocence initiative to provide free trauma and grief counseling to the survivors of gun violence in Chicago’s underserved communities.
2019
DE&I Committee formalized its efforts at diversity and inclusion s values to ensure that its culture and services reflected the constituencies it served.
Seeing that easy access to services was critical for all in need, Perspectives begins to offer virtual services along with the in-person and telephonic services.
2020
In response to the pandemic shutdowns and crisis, Perspectives accelerated the full implementation of the many forms of increased access to mental health support via text, phone, email, 24/7 online chat and virtual counseling.
Perspectives responds to the increased demand for counseling and psychotherapy services by expanding its outpatient behavioral health practice division which has been in existence since Perspectives’ inception.
2021
Perspectives celebrates its 40th anniversary.
40 years later, our behavioral health and workforce development experts provide employee, student and member assistance programs, organizational consulting and counseling for individuals, teams, and organizations.
2022
Introduced the CAT-MH screening tool for mental health disorders, a major advancement in the EAP and behavioral health fields
Perspectives is currently the first and only EAP in the world with access to this innovative technology.
